RØDD
Open Call For Voices for Submission-Based Soundscape at EXPO 20252025

Nordic Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka RØDD (Faroese for “voice”) is a submission-based soundscape installation by Faroese composer and sound artist Jens L. Thomsen, premiering in the Nordic Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

People from all over the world were invited to contribute their voices through a purpose-built interactive website. These recordings — diverse in language, dialect, and expression — were layered into a living, evolving composition. Once set up at Expo 2025, visitors were invited to add their own voices, continuing the sonic conversation in real time.

Amid division and rising walls, RØDD seeks to build bridges — creating a unified human voice from countless individual contributions.

The interactive website and sound engine were developed in close collaboration with creative audio software developer Dirk Handreke. UI design was made by Miðberg.

Commissioned by Tonik and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Nordic Pavilion.

RØDD was sponsored by Nema.
